Column: SNAP restrictions won’t solve South Carolina's obesity problem

Lawmakers know this and have proposed ideas to limit what items SNAP recipients can purchase. Beginning Aug. 31, 2026, SNAP recipients in South Carolina will be limited from purchasing sugary products for two years. However, this minor change likely won't solve anything in the long term as obesity is a deeper-rooted issue that requires more robust solutions.
