Basketball team needs support
In response to Greg Meuli’s editorial in Wednesday’s edition of The Daily Gamecock, how do people think Darrin Horn is a bad coach? This past season was only Horn’s third. His first season included 22 wins and a co-SEC East regular season championship, and he led USC to its first win over a No. 1 team in the program’s history. Meuli mentions that numerous players have been released by Horn. It wasn’t mentioned, however, that Chad Gray and Mike Holmes were also kicked off Coastal Carolina’s team after continuing their collegiate careers, and that only two of the seven players released were actually Horn’s.
Horn is slowly reviving the program; he just needs a little more time. I am not saying we are going to be a national powerhouse, but many fans wanted legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski to be fired after he went to the NIT his first year, followed by two losing seasons. Four NCAA championships and 27 NCAA tournament appearances later, they are happy he stayed. So do we really want to fire a young coach working hard for honest success and hire a coach who was just fired for lying to the NCAA? Have some faith, Gamecock nation. It took us over 100 years to win an NCAA championship in a major sport — I think we can give Horn another year or two.
