USC confirmed the speaker to The Daily Gamecock late Thursday afternoon, saying Sotomayor will speak during Friday afternoon's 3 p.m. ceremony inside the Colonial Life Arena. Students from Carolina's Darla Moore School of Business, College of Mass Communications and Information Studies, College of Nursing, S.C. College of Pharmacy and Arnold School of Public Health will receive degrees in that ceremony, according to USC.
President Harris Pastides said Sotomayor won't be paid for her appearance at the university but will receive an honorary law degree.
Other noteworthy graduation speakers include Sen. Lindsey Graham, Surgeon General Regina Benjamin and current ambassador to China Jon Huntsman.
More details will come in tomorrow's edition of The Daily Gamecock.
