CP to host country singer Josh Turner on Nov. 17

Singer will perform at Carolina Coliseum

Country artist Josh Turner will bring his deep Southern voice and South Carolina charm to the USC stage, performing at the Carolina Coliseum Thursday, Nov. 17.

The Hannah, S.C., native, known best for his debut single, 2003’s “Long Black Train,” has proved himself in the industry with his fourth studio album, 2010’s “Haywire.”

Carolina Productions will host Turner in its final concert of the semester, and the show will be free to all students, faculty and staff.

The organization, which hosted rapper Game last month, is adding a new genre to its lineup with the latest pick.

“His name popped up because he is a country artist, and we haven’t done that in several years,” CP President Lee McKagen said. “This is just a stab at a different genre that we haven’t catered to recently.”

The show will kick off a country weekend for Columbia, with Taylor Swift performing in her “Speak Now” tour at the Colonial Life Arena the following evening.

Josh Turner tickets will be available Friday at 8 a.m. at the Russell House Information Desk and the Coliseum Box Office. One ticket is available for every active Carolina Card.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show is at 8 p.m.
