Suspect charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian on a crosswalk
A car struck a pedestrian crossing Blossom Street near campus Monday afternoon.
Randall Latimer, 20, is charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and not having proof of insurance.
The woman was walking in a crosswalk on the 1000 block of Blossom Street, near the Greek Village and the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center, when she was hit, according to a release.
The suspect was traveling at 15 mph at the time, Columbia police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital after she suffered lacerations to her head, according to the release.
Timmons said she wasn't sure of her status or whether she had been discharged Monday evening.
Little other information about the victim, including if she is a USC student, was available by press time. Latimer is not listed in the university's directory.
