Campus musicians performed at first bimonthly coffee house
Carolina Productions kicked off its Acoustic Cafe series Tuesday night with a lineup featuring recognized talent from USC.
Max Laffey, winner of 2012 USC Idol, started off the night with a soulful mixture of covers and original works.
Following Laffey was the duo of Lauren Young and Alexis Blevins, who participated in last year’s USC Idol. The two followed Laffey’s lead and also performed a mix of originals and covers including Wheatus’ “Teenage Dirtbag.”
Alec Krok, who was in USC’s Got Talent last year and has albums on Amazon and iTunes, and 2013 USC Idol Winner Emily Andreoli finished out the show with her own rendition of “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus.
Performers covered bands like Sublime, Sequoyah and Lorde.
Carolina Productions’ concert coordinator Adam Mayer organized Tuesday’s performances.
Mayer said that the Acoustic Cafe series has been around for at least the past three years and has changed over time to be able to accommodate more artists, such as moving the start time up an hour earlier, from 9 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“We’ve had to turn away more than 30 people over the past two semesters,” Mayer said.
Despite having to deny many the opportunity to perform in the past, Mayer noted that he was pleased with both the set list and turnout on Tuesday.
“I’m happy with tonight, especially with it being the first night,” Mayer said. “We’ve got a great lineup.”
Carolina Productions will continue to hold Acoustic Cafe events every other Tuesday for the remainder of the semester.
