Dance Marathon gets pumped

The Dance Marathon team held a registration rally on Thursday night, hoping to encourage more students to sign up for the philanthropy event held on March 1.

Head Morale Katelyn Daley, a third-year public relations student, said the Dance Marathon morale team was hoping to reach out to as many students on campus as possible.

To generate excitement for the event, the morale team previewed the first two minutes of their 13-minute line dance, a choreographed dance that will be taught to dancers throughout the marathon.

“It’s totally different than last year,” Daley said. “We have some classic throwback music, movie clips and quotes. It’s sort of like a melting pot.”

Lauren Carpenter, a fourth-year biology student who is also serving as Head Morale, said that they were hoping to encourage more students to participate this year and beat last year’s number of about 800 dancers.

“So far, we’ve had about 550 students sign up,” said Carpenter. “Our goal is 1000.”
