Baseball claims series over Alabama

Gamecocks gain ground in SEC

After winning Friday’s opener and dropping game two Saturday, the South Carolina baseball team (34-11, 12-9 SEC) took a 9-3 win over Alabama to clinch the series.

Several Gamecocks turned in explosive days at the plate against the Crimson Tide, with junior Kyle Martin leading the way with four hits in his five at bats. Freshmen Marcus Mooney and Jordan Gore followed close behind with three hits apiece.

Freshman Wil Crowe went five innings and allowed five hits and three runs. Freshman Cody Mincey came in to relieve Crowe and earned the win behind 1 2/3 scoreless innings and junior Joel Seddon was credited with the save for his 2 1/3 innings to close out the game.

South Carolina will get a break until next weekend when the Gamecocks travel to Georgia to take on the Bulldogs in a three-game set.
