The tornado watch has been lifted across the Midlands, but severe winds have left many people without power across Lexington and Richland counties, The State reported.
SCE&G said that over 6,870 customers in the area were without power at around 5:40 p.m. A wind advisory was in effect for Richland, Lexington, Newberry, Fairfield, Orangeburg, Saluda, Barnwell, Aiken, Calhoun and Bamberg counties until 7 p.m. Kershaw, Sumter Lee, Darlington and Florence counties will remained under a tornado watch until 7 p.m.
Severe weather has hit harder in other states. Lee Walker, spokesman for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fishers, said three people in Waverly, Virginia, died Wednesday after a storm traveled through the eastern part of the state. Three other people from Mississippi and Louisiana died Tuesday when tornadoes hit.
