Brief: Severe winds cause power outages

The tornado watch has been lifted across the Midlands, but severe winds have left many people without power across Lexington and Richland counties, The State reported.

SCE&G said that over 6,870 customers in the area were without power at around 5:40 p.m. A wind advisory was in effect for Richland, Lexington, Newberry, Fairfield, Orangeburg, Saluda, Barnwell, Aiken, Calhoun and Bamberg counties until 7 p.m. Kershaw, Sumter Lee, Darlington and Florence counties will remained under a tornado watch until 7 p.m.

Severe weather has hit harder in other states. Lee Walker, spokesman for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fishers, said three people in Waverly, Virginia, died Wednesday after a storm traveled through the eastern part of the state. Three other people from Mississippi and Louisiana died Tuesday when tornadoes hit.
