The USC chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity no longer exists, according to a letter of resignation by Fraternity Council President Brian Lewis.
"The University no longer recognizes my Fraternity, thus, in accordance with [the Fraternity Council Constitution] I cannot retain my position," Lewis said in his letter to members of the Fraternity Council.
The chapter had been suspended indefinitely by the fraternity's national organization on March 25 for undisclosed reasons. At the time of the suspension, University spokesperson Wes Hickman said the University supported the suspension and was investigating the reason behind it.
The Daily Gamecock has reached out to Fraternity and Sorority Life and the university for comment. The story will continue to be updated when more information is available.
