2017 Gamecock Signing Class: Linebackers
Will Muschamp continues to add depth on his defense by signing four linebackers in this 2017 class. It will be interesting to see if any of the four break into the starting rotation next year as the Gamecocks look to replace TJ Holloman from last year’s starting lineup.
Sherrod Greene: Greene is a 3-star linebacker from Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He had notable offers from Alabama, North Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia Tech. In his junior year, he had 154 tackles, 5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss. He was a participant at the Shrine Bowl.
Eldridge Thompson: Another member of the 2017 signing class from the junior college ranks is linebacker Eldridge Thompson. He is originally from Memphis, Tennessee, where he played at high school powerhouse White Station, but he spent the past two seasons at Coffeyville Community College. He had offers from Florida State, Mississippi State, and Middle Tennessee State.
Davonne Bowen: Bowen is a 3-star, instate linebacker from Piedmont, South Carolina. He had offers from programs such as Appalachian State, Maryland, Missouri and Louisville. He was a participant in the Shrine Bowl. In his senior season he tallied 75 tackles, 6 sacks and 2 interceptions.
Damani Staley: Son of former Gamecock running back Duce Staley, Damani decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and play for the Gamecocks. Staley’s other offers came from Georgia Tech and East Carolina. He played at Ridge View in Columbia and was a participant in the Shrine Bowl. His senior year, he put up eye-popping stats with 120 tackles, 51.5 tackles for loss and 29 sacks.
