The Weather Channel is predicting rain and storms until at least 7 p.m. in Columbia. Large hail is possible, with winds up to 15 mph. Richland and Lexington counties are under a flash flood warning until 4:30 p.m. and a tornado watch until 8 p.m. A tornado warning has been issued for southeast Richland County, with hail up to 1 inch spotted on the radar.
Classes at the University of South Carolina were cancelled starting at 1 p.m., although the Darius Rucker concert is still set for 7:30 p.m. at Colonial Life Arena.
Use caution while driving — just a few inches of water can cause loss of control.
Areas on campus susceptible to flooding:
- Intersection of Main and Whaley streets
- Parking lots behind 300 Main St.
- Parking lots behind Blatt P.E. Center
- Sumter Street under the railroad bridge
- Pickens Street under the pedestrian crossing
If there is a tornado warning:
- Move to an interior hallway on a lower level in the middle of the building you are in
- Stay away from all windows and glass doors
- DO NOT use the elevators
- Close and/or lock all windows and exterior doors
