Julian R. Williams named first vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion at USC

At its meeting Feb 21, the board of trustees approved Julian R. Williams to serve as the university’s first vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion.

Williams was chosen by university President Bob Caslen after a national search, which resulted in three finalists who came and held open forums at USC.

“I’m thrilled Julian is joining our Gamecock family, and I’m certain he’ll do a tremendous job leading our efforts to promote diversity and inclusion on our campus and beyond,” Caslen said in an email press release.

As vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion, Williams will work to create a “diverse, equitable, and inclusive” environment on campus and lead the way in terms of direction and planning in that area, according to his position description online.
