The whiskey smash was originally made as a variation of the mint julep, but has since then taken on its own identity as a staple whiskey cocktail. For this episode of Cocktails, we're making a variation of the whiskey smash for St. Patrick's Day. Basically, a variation of a variation of the mint julep.
We'll be using Irish whiskey for obvious reasons, and lime instead of lemon for a little more green.
Ingredients:
8 to 12 mint leaves
1/4 lime, sliced in half
2 ounces Irish whiskey
1/2 ounce simple syrup
Sprig of mint
Instructions:
Add mint leaves, lime, whiskey and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker and shake with one large ice cube.
Pour over crushed ice and garnish with a sprig of mint and a lime wedge.
