The Elections Commission released a breakdown Thursday of how many students voted for who during the 2021 Student Government executive elections.
A total of 5,331 students voted in the elections this year, 186 less than the 5,517 who voted in last year's election. A total of 4,953 students voted in the runoff election for the president and treasurer position.
Alex Harrell won the presidential runoff election with 2,508 of the 4,910 total votes, that being 51.08% of the vote. Harrell defeated Aidan Baker, who received 2,402 votes, or 48.92% of the votes.
Caden Askew and Cameron Butler did not continue to the runoffs, as they received fewer votes than Harrell and Baker in the initial race. Askew received 1,331 votes of the 5,237 votes in the initial presidential race, that being 25.42% of the votes, and Butler received 194, 3.7% of the vote.
Emily Dengler won the vice presidential election with 2,679 of the 5,009 votes, that being 53.48% of the vote. Dengler defeated Ashlyn Osborne, who gained 2,189 votes, or 43.7% of the vote.
Kate Turner won the treasurer runoff election with 2,698 of the 4,871 votes, that being 53.39% of the vote. Turner defeated Jack Lind, who received 2,173 votes, or 44.61% of the vote in the runoff election.
Sam Courson and Mathew Durant did not continue to the runoffs, as they received fewer votes than Turner and Lind. Courson received 748 of the 4,999 votes in the initial treasurer race, 14.96% of the votes, and Durant won 735, 14.7% of the vote.
Morgiana McDevitt won the speaker of the student senate election with 3,230 votes, that being 66.39% of the 4,865 votes. McDevitt defeated Christian Phillips, who received 1,544 votes, or 31.74% of the vote.
The referendum to make the treasurer a presidentially appointed position received 3,960 votes for it, 82.17% of the vote. It received 859 votes against it.
