Men’s basketball head coach Lamont Paris added two assistant coaches, Tanner Bronson and Eddie Shannon, to his staff on Friday.

The two join Paris in leaving Chattanooga to work at South Carolina.

Bronson got his start in coaching in 2009 after graduating as a player from the University of Wisconsin. His first job was as an assistant coach in the G-league for the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He’s also served on coaching staffs at Saint Louis and University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Bronson was hired to Paris’ first staff at Chattanooga in 2017. Bronson was a key part in turning the team from one of the worst in the conference to champions.

"Tanner has been with me since day one of my head coaching career. He's extremely talented as a teacher as well as an evaluator and a recruiter. His impact on building a championship team and culture was incredibly significant,” Paris said in a press release.

Bronson’s contract will be for one season with a $290,000 base salary, plus one month's base salary for an NCAA tournament appearance or a Final Four appearance.

Shannon played college basketball at the University of Florida from 1995-1999. After graduating, he had a 10 season overseas career in Australia, Croatia, Cypress, France, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Russia and Sweden.

His first coaching job came in 2012 when he signed on as an assistant at D-II Palm Beach Atlantic. He then went to Chattanooga and served as director of basketball operations 2015-2016 before becoming an assistant the following season.

After a brief stop serving as an assistant at Canisius from 2017-2019, Shannon returned to Chattanooga to join Paris’ staff.

“As a former standout guard in the SEC, Eddie Shannon is extremely familiar with this league and what it takes to be successful. He does a tremendous job with our perimeter players, and is very familiar with our geographic footprint from a recruiting standpoint," Paris said.

Bronson and Shanon join Carey Rich, the special assistant to the head coach, as the second and third members hired to Paris’ staff.
