Student Body Treasurer Jacob Vaught will no longer be in his position after Nov. 6.
In a letter obtained by The Daily Gamecock, Vaught wrote to Speaker of the Student Senate Maura Hamilton and Student Body President Patton Byars that he has decided to resign due to "a change in personal and academic commitments."
Vaught was sworn into the role in March during a period when Student Government had run out of funds in the 2023-2024 and 2022-2023 school years. During his tenure, he helped increase Student Government's budget and reformed the financial codes to make it easier for student organizations to request funds.
"The decision was difficult as it has been a privilege to work alongside my peers in service to the student body," Vaught wrote in the letter. "I believe stepping down is the best course of action to ensure the continued effectiveness of the Treasurer's office."
Vaught declined to comment until after the resignation is presented at Wednesday's student senate meeting.
It is unclear who will take over Vaught's position, but Byars is required to nominate a person to fill the role by 5 p.m. the day before the second student senate session following the vacancy, according to Student Government's codes.
