Redshirt freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers has added to his trophy case after his memorable rookie campaign.
The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced Sellers as their National Offensive Player of the Year on Tuesday. Already named the SEC Freshman of the Year, Sellers has much to show from his freshman campaign.
Sellers finished the season with 2,534 yards alongside 18 touchdowns and a 65.6 completion percentage. Sellers also made his presence known on the ground, rushing for 674 yards and 7 touchdowns, averaging 4.1 yards per carry.
The efforts of Sellers helped lead the Gamecocks to a 9-4 record to finish the season, the best finish in the Shane Beamer era at South Carolina and the best for the Gamecocks since the 2017 season. Sellers led the Gamecocks to as high as No. 13 on the AP Poll, a number they had not reached since the 2014 season.
Edge rusher Dylan Stewart and offensive tackle Josiah Thompson join Sellers on the FWAA Freshman All-America team. It is the first time any Gamecock is on the Freshman All-America since Jadeveon Clowney was awarded a spot on the 2011 team.
Fifth-year edge rusher Kyle Kennard, junior defensive back Nick Emmanwori and fifth-year punter Kai Kroeger join the three freshman as members of the FWAA All-America teams. Kennard was a member of the first team, while Emmanwori and Kroeger were named as members of the second team.
South Carolina totaled a combined six-members on the FWAA All-America teams, the most of any FBS school in the nation.
Sellers will be honored on Feb. 24 at Spurrier's Golden Grille in Gainesville, Fl. He will be joined by Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore (FWAA Defensive Freshman of the Year), Clemson placekicker Nolan Hauser (FWAA Special Teams Freshman of the Year), and Syracuse head coach Fran Brown (First-Year Coach Award).
