Back II Black returned to USC this year, allowing students from all across campus join together in gala dresses, suits and their favorite sneakers for a night of luxury and celebration on Feb. 25, 2022. The Back II Black Gala also showcased a variety of performances including original songs, dancing and spoken word poetry.

Back II Black returned to USC this year, allowing students from all across campus join together in gala dresses, suits and their favorite sneakers for a night of luxury and celebration on Feb. 25, 2022. The Back II Black Gala also showcased a variety of performances including original songs, dancing and spoken word poetry.


The University of South Carolina is home to a large variety of clubs that allow students to get involved with new interests, hobbies, sports and activities. From brand new clubs like Art Therapy, which is a club that had its second meeting in February 2022, to fast-paced sports clubs like boxing club, triathlon club and the Carolina Movement Club, USC has no shortage of organizations for its students to find a place to be themselves. Whether students are into dancing, exercising or even drinking soda, USC has a community for them. Club members from each and every organization said they get a sense of community from coming to practices, meetings and events.

The South Carolina softball team opened up its season in with the Gamecock Invitational on Feb. 11. The three day invitational saw the Gamecocks finish the weekend with a 3-1 record, defeating Virginia, Lipscomb, and George Washington.

The South Carolina State Fair is a widely anticipated event, and attending has become a tradition for many. It is the biggest fair in the state, and the colorful attractions, charismatic performers and fun atmosphere draw thousands of people from across the country. This year, the 152nd annual fair was held from Oct. 13, 2021 to Oct. 24, 2021. Throughout those 12 days and nights, fair-goers enjoyed games, rides, food and fun. The fair serves as a reminder that traditions do not have to be ceremonious or formal in order to be significant — the festive, informal and playful State Fair is a part of our shared experience.

With social media, schoolwork and duties of various jobs, it is common to get caught up in the allure of traveling and going somewhere far from here. It is much too easy to forget the natural environment of Columbia and all the hiking trails, campsites or green spaces this state has to offer. This region is home to multiple scenic State Parks, and the Sesquicentennial is no exception. Less than 20 miles away,  these peaceful landscapes are right in our backyard. And if you are crunched for time, it wouldn’t even take a whole day trip.
