The University of South Carolina held its annual Tiger Burning ceremony at the Bluff Road Intermural Field on Nov. 21, 2022. The USC American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers constructed the 32.5-foot-tall Clemson Tiger statue that was burned in preparation for the USC-Clemson Rivalry game on Nov. 26, 2022. 

This year’s festivities included performances from the South Carolina marching band, color guard, and cheer team. Vice president for student affairs and academic support J. Rex Tolliver and head football coach Shane Beamer made speeches on stage prior to lighting the flame.

The Voyage of Life exhibition combines sculptures from Christopher Mahonski and Eli Kessler. These sculptures are created using a wide range of processes and techniques, like metal fabrication and woodworking. These processes are combined with biological specimens and geological forms to expose the tensions between ecological and socio-cultural developments. The exhibition is currently being shown from Oct. 24 to Nov. 29, 2022 in the McMaster Gallery at McMaster College.

The Marty & McGee and SEC Nation pregame show came to the Horseshoe on Nov. 19, 2022. The shows featured interviews with South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer, red shirt junior quarterback Spencer Rattler and other guests from across the SEC and from the University of South Carolina. 


The South Carolina women's soccer team beat Wake Forest 2-0 in their first match of the NCAA Tournament. The South Carolina women's soccer team beat Wake Forest 2-0 in their first match of the NCAA Tournament. The Gamecocks men's club volleyball team hosted a home tournament at Upward Star Volleyball Center on Nov. 12, 2022. Kennesaw State, University of Georgia, Coastal Carolina, University of Elon, College of Charleston, University of North Carolina Charlotte and Upward Star Club played the three Gamecocks club teams in pool and tournament play. The Gamecocks' three feature teams were the A team, the Garnet team and the Black team. The A team went 6-0 in pool play, but fell to the Star Club team in the Gold Bracket final. The Garnet team went 3-3 in pool play, and after a strong start against Coastal Carolina A, they fell just short in the first round of the Gold Bracket. As for the Black team, they went 5-1 in pool play, with their only loss being a split against Georgia A. In tournament play they saw a strong 25-20 win against UNCC A, but in a match against their own A team, fell short in a 2-0 match loss. Gamecock men's club volleyball see 3-5 tournaments in their Fall offseason, and compete in ECVA matches throughout the Spring.

In a highly anticipated matchup between rivals, the South Carolina club hockey team powered past a tough Clemson defense to pull out a nail-biting 5-4 victory. The game featured a number of stops from senior goalie Liam Gormley that played a crucial role keeping the Tigers at bay. "The South Carolina baseball team held a series of intrasquad scrimmages in preparation of its upcoming spring season. The Garnet and Black World Series saw the roster split into two teams for a best-of-three series in front of small crowds as the players look towards their season beginning in February. The afternoon scrimmages were held on Nov. 2, 3 and 5 and featured both new and returning players.


The South Carolina volleyball team went up against Ole Miss during a weekend tournament from Nov. 5 to Nov. 6, 2022. 

The Gamecocks began the weekend with a 3-1 loss after four hard-fought sets. The Gamecocks finished out the weekend with a 3-1 win against Rebels on Sunday Nov. 6, 2022. They lost the first set of the match but came back, winning the last three sets.

The Gamecock men's basketball team beat Mars Hill 80-41 in its scrimmage on Nov. 2, 2022. Standout players included junior guard Meechie Johnson, who dominated the night with his 16 point game. South Carolina's five star prospect, freshman forward GG Jackson, contributed 11 points to the team's victory. 


The Gamecocks matched up with the Missouri Tigers on Oct. 29, 2022. With the game falling on Halloween weekend, many fans came to the game dressed in their Halloween costumes, hoping their Halloween and school spirit would help them win a sixth game for the season. Missouri started out strong, and overcame South Carolina's defense, beating them 23 to 10.

The Gamecocks matched up with the Missouri Tigers on Oct. 29, 2022. With the game falling on Halloween weekend, many fans came to the game dressed in their Halloween costumes, hoping their Halloween and school spirit would help them win a sixth game for the season. Missouri started out strong, and overcame South Carolina's defense, beating them 23 to 10.


 
Several club and college sports teams are often overlooked by fans amid the hype surrounding sports like football and basketball. While waving rally towels around in Williams-Brice Stadium or cheering on our top-ranking women’s basketball team may be a must for South Carolina sports fans, attendance is on the rise for smaller production sports like Cock Hockey. 

With a highly competitive club sport like Cock Hockey and a variety of collegiate sports teams like South Carolina’s tennis, swim and dive and track teams, the university offers a large variety of entertaining matches and tournaments that sports fans can root for all winter long.
