The No. 9 South Carolina softball team defeated the No. 20 Ole Miss Rebels 1-0 in its first matchup on Friday. Both teams were held scoreless until the eighth inning where the Gamecocks loaded the bases and scored off of sixth-year outfielder Abigail Knight's walk to win the game. The Gamecocks lost the second game of the series 2-1 despite finding some momentum late in the game. South Carolina won the final game of the series 4-2 to secure the series win. All four runs were scored in the first inning and the Gamecocks relied on skilled pitching from junior pitcher Jori Heard and sixth-year pitcher Sam Gress to keep the Rebels from taking a lead during the game.
