With a flurry of glitter, tutus and a sea of blue and red shirts emblazoned with the letters “FTK.” USC’s 16th annual Dance Marathon fundraiser took place from Saturday to Sunday at the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center. This year’s Dance Marathon benefited the Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. Participants in 24-hour dance-a-ton raised $318,649 for the Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital/Children’s Miracle Network.

Higher education and student affairs (HESA) graduate students ran from Wardlaw College to “The Torchbearer” statue in celebration after completing their final comprehensive exam Friday afternoon.
The Guinness World Record for most bow ties tied at once was broken by USC students Sunday at Tie Us Together event at the Columbia Metropolitan Covention Center. USC Dance Marathon hosted the event in support of Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, Columbia’s local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. The original idea came from Britton’s co-owner Lucky Levinson, who then brought the idea to Dance Marathon. The 6th annual World Beer Festival returned to the Columbia Convention Center on Jan. 18 with pools of beer, dudes in lederhosen and thousands of pretzel necklaces. Tasters of all kinds (from the seasoned beer snob to the college student with a pallet accustomed to Natural Light) perused taps from dozens of breweries, filled complimentary tasting glasses with generous samples of over 150 craft flavors and fought through 5 p.m. hangovers.
The annual Tiger Burn took place at Greene St. intramural fields on a chilly Monday night. Hundreds of students gathered to watch the tradition of burning a wooden tiger to the ground, celebrating the longstanding rivalry between USC and Clemson. Cockapella, Swipe, Alpha Kappa Alpha, and Iota Beta Sigma gave live performances before the tiger was ignited.
