A lone speaker stood reading poetry off their phone in front of people scattered around the dim Russell Underground. The room sat silent in attention as the person spoke their verses aloud, only snapping in applause once the speaker finished their poem. Another volunteer eagerly lined up to share their own prose in front of the attendees of Popcorn & Poetry, an event courtesy of UniVERSE.

New additions to Columbia's food and beverage scene share Asian-focused menus ranging from Japanese and Pan-Asian to Latin-Asian fusion. Two come from the All In Hospitality group — best known for Publico — and one from the owners of Menkoi Ramen House. There's also a spin-off location of a cult favorite convenience store.

In the final weeks of the fall 2021 semester, students in an English 200 class taped poems up in elevators, wrote haikus in paper napkin rings and chalked walkways with verses of poetry for their '200 Poets' class project. Their goal was to use literature to disrupt the monotony of daily life.

We’re back for another semester on campus and in person, mostly. Although we’re not ready for classes to start again, we all couldn’t wait to get back to Columbia. For those counting down the hours until Saturday and the long weekend, this playlist will make Friday afternoon go by a little faster.
