The university updated its COVID-19 dashboard to report a decrease in active cases to 105.
The number of active COVID-19 cases at USC has risen to 119 from the 98 active cases reported on Tuesday.
Since the University of South Carolina has implemented mandatory monthly testing, campus has become a safer environment than in the fall, according to Rebecca Caldwell, the director of Strategic Health Initiatives. Each of the four testing groups has had a roughly 90% compliance rate for mandatory testing.

The total number of active COVID-19 cases has fallen from 181 to 112. Additionally, the percent positive rate of the tests administered and the occupation rate of the quarantine dorms are down from the last reporting period.
The reported total of active COVID-19 cases rises to 303 as the first week of classes begins, according to the university's COVID-19 dashboard.

With a significant number of the students contracting the coronavirus since Aug. 1, there is some level of immunity built up on campus, but health experts say striving for herd immunity would be irresponsible from a public health perspective.
The university announced its plans Monday for mandatory return COVID-19 testing before the Spring 2021 semester and monthly testing throughout.
