South Carolina football secondary shines with early season dominance

The South Carolina Gamecocks’ secondary has emerged this season as a force, wrecking havoc on opposing offenses, and forcing turnovers, while maintaining tight pass coverage. They defensive unit has allowed 196.4 passing yards per game, which ranks fifth in the SEC and 36th in the nation. The Gamecocks have also caught 10 interceptions, which is tied for first in the SEC and tied fourth out of all FBS division 1 schools.

Fifteen years ago, South Carolina's tradition of playing "Sandstorm" at sporting events was born when the Gamecock football team earned an upset win over then-No. 4 Ole Miss. As the Rebels travel to Columbia for the first time since then, USC alumni and employees from that time tell their stories from that September night as well as the history and legacy of the song as a Gamecock tradition.
