Notebook: Jeffery hits career mark

Wideout passes 2,000 yards in just two seasons Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery reached a career milestone Saturday, eclipsing the 2,000 yard mark in only his second season of play. The Saint Matthews native led the USC receiving corps with 141 yards and a touchdown Saturday against Clemson. He played the best in the first half, accumulating 126 yards and making hard catches look easy.

Defense shines in victory

Gamecocks continue to improve once-struggling secondary CLEMSON -- The South Carolina defense has a tendency to not let the big play bother them. Just like in the Florida game on Nov. 13, in which the Gators returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, the defense stood firm after Clemson scored on its first possession of the game.

Burnett leads South Carolina into Landfall Tradition in NC

The USC women's golf team will be looking to get back on track this weekend as it travels to Wilmington, N.C., to compete in the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall. Carolina's most experienced player, junior Katie Burnett, will be a key factor if USC wants to improve on its 11th place finish two weeks ago in Chapel Hill, N.C., at the Tar Heel Invitational. Fortunately, Burnett has momentum on her side. The Brunswick, Ga., native shot a 1-under-par 71 in the final round of the Invitational, a three-shot improvement on what she fired in the first two days of the tournament. Burnett has been the most consistent player on the squad so far in the young season. In the Cougar Classic in Hanahan earlier this fall, Burnett placed fourth individually and compiled a 2-under-par tournament. She also leads the team with three rounds of even par or better and has a 72.12 round average. "Katie's game is the best it has ever been," coach

Lee leads Gamecocks

Over the weekend, freshman Suzie Lee was the one thing every golfer aspires to be: consistent. Lee shot three straight rounds of even-par 72 golf at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. The East Northport, N.Y., native also had the lowest score on the team, and finished tied for 24th overall. Lee started out very strong in the final round, making birdie on two out of her first three holes. She then evened out to get her very good even-par score. The most experienced player on the team, junior Katie Burnett, finished very strong on the last day of the tournament. Her 71 was the best round out of any Gamecock, and helped USC climb up the standings on Sunday's final round. "Katie's game is better than it has ever been," coach
