USC College of Nursing aims to give hope, confidence to disabled, aspiring nurses

The USC College of Nursing and Susan Newman have begun a nursing initiative to include and diversify the nursing industry in the state of South Carolina, giving students with disabilities confidence and guidance. The first class of students will come next summer, as local partners such as Able SC, the Lexington Medical Center and Prisma Health are collaborators and recruiting students in the process.

The Art Therapy Club on USC campus thrives on the feeling and experience its members gain. From the camaraderie and peace, to the stress ball put in front of members that is art, everything else gets put on the back burner for that hour when its meets on Wednesday nights.

‘Everyone was texting their parents, saying that they love them’: Students share experiences from false active shooter alert

On Aug. 24, there were two calls made to USCPD about an active shooter at Thomas Cooper Library, which were later proven to be false. Some students shared their experiences of the event, describing large crowds running across campus.

On April 3 at Feathered Nest, this booth shows all kinds of home decorations, including pots, flowers and Easter decorations for customers.

New Cayce thrift, antique shop not your 'typical bright box retail' shop

On March 8, thrift and antique shop Feathered Nest opened in Cayce, providing a wide array of items for its customers. Vendors and the owner of the shop emphasized the uniqueness of the shop, as well as the treasure hunt that goes into finding the best items for each vendor to represent the shop and ultimately create the most potential sales.

Elegant Essence is the first Black majorette dance group at USC, making their impact known by performing all across the USC campus. They aim to show grace through their dancing skills, as well as establish a new space for Black students and become more confident in themselves during their time at USC.

Movie theatre Babylon Kino to foster local community for filmmakers, guests

An underground movie theatre called Babylon Kino opens its doors on Feb. 7 to the public with a showing of the 1988 film "Brain Damage." The theatre's owner and partners aim to establish personal connections with the customers and bring a home to Columbia for local filmmakers and videographers that's never been available before.

The Central Carolina Comic Con at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds showcased the cinema and arts communities. The Comic Con offered viewers a fresh and more open aspect of movies through comic books, posters and the presence of celebrities such as actors and television producers.
