Palmetto Series recap: Gamecocks hold 2-point lead over Tigers heading into South Carolina-Clemson football game

The Palmetto Series is a rivalry competition sponsored by the South Carolina Education Lottery that pits South Carolina's and Clemson's sports teams against each other over the course of the 2024-2025 season. Ahead of the Gamecocks' and the Tigers' annual football game, South Carolina holds a 2-point lead over Clemson with a win in volleyball and women's basketball.

The University of South Carolina women's soccer team has advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament after a 6-0 victory over East Carolina University on Nov. 15, 2024. The Gamecocks experienced many major moments in this game. Freshman forward Katie Shea Collins had a hat trick, fifth-year forward Catherine Barry broke the all-time record for goals in a career and fifth-year goalkeeper Taylor Fox scored her first career goal. The six goals scored by the Gamecocks are the most in an NCAA game since they played Alabama State in 2016. The Gamecocks are now set to take on Minnesota in the second round of the tournament.

Junior midfielder Ethan Ballek, who transferred to South Carolina during the offseason, has played a big role in that success, logging nine goals and five assists this season.
